Terms of use

Draft of 14 October 2026 · South African law applies

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

eRanki is operated by Uhuru AI (Pty) Ltd. These terms cover the eRanki app for passengers, drivers and marshals, this website, the association dashboard, the supplier portal and the media partner portal. Our privacy policy (Privacy (POPIA)) explains what we do with your information and forms part of these terms.

2. Using eRanki

  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
  • Your role (passenger, driver, marshal, owner, supplier, administrator) is given by your association or by eRanki. You cannot give yourself a role.
  • Do not report false queue levels, false incidents or false lost items, impersonate anyone, or use eRanki to harass people. We may suspend accounts that do.

3. SOS and safety features

  • eRanki is not an emergency service. In an emergency call 10111 (police) or 112 from a cellphone. The SOS screen keeps a button for 10111.
  • An SOS reaches your association's safety ops room and the trusted contacts you chose. It depends on your phone having signal, battery and, for your position, location turned on. Messages to your contacts go by SMS or WhatsApp; the app shows whether each one was sent, failed, or was not sent at all.
  • Driver verification shows what the association has recorded about a driver and a taxi. It is not a guarantee of anyone's conduct.
  • Never use the app or driver chat while driving.

4. Information in the app

Queue levels come from marshals, fares from associations, and arrival times are estimates and are labelled as such. We show them honestly, but we cannot promise they are always right or up to date.

5. Bookings

  • eRanki puts you in touch with operators of the association nearest your pickup. When you accept a quote, your agreement for the trip is with that operator, not with eRanki.
  • eRanki does not handle payments. You pay the operator directly, as you agree with them.
  • An operator can offer only vehicles and drivers whose documents (roadworthy, licence disc, insurance, operating licence and the driver's PrDP) are recorded as valid for the trip dates. That is a check of the records, not an inspection of the vehicle.
  • Either side can cancel, with a reason, until the trip starts.

6. The supplier marketplace

  • Owners and associations ask suppliers for quotes through eRanki. A quote, an order and its delivery are agreements between the buyer and the supplier. eRanki does not handle payments and is not a party to them.
  • Reviews must be honest and about a real order. A dispute is decided by the association, upheld or not; that decision is not a court judgment and does not stop either side from using their legal rights.

7. Lost and found

Associations hold items that are handed in and give them back to the owner who proves it, with the code the app gives you. The association hands identity documents and wallets that nobody claims to the police (SAPS) after 30 days. We do our best, but we cannot promise an item will be found.

8. Driver chat

Driver chat is for drivers, marshals and associations to coordinate. Keep it respectful and lawful. The association can hide reported messages. Messages are kept for 30 days.

9. Adverts

The Vibe hub may show adverts from our media partner, always labelled as adverts and never on safety screens or during an SOS. They are chosen by place, route, language and time, not by who you are.

10. Availability, changes and responsibility

  • We work to keep eRanki available, but it can be interrupted, for example by network outages or maintenance.
  • We may change these terms. We will tell you in the app before a change that affects you takes effect.
  • Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, the Protection of Personal Information Act or any other law that cannot be excluded.

11. Law and contact

South African law applies to these terms. Questions: hello@eranki.co.za.

For the reviewer (remove before publishing)

  1. Confirm the operating entity, its registration number and address (section 1).
  2. The disclosures the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (section 43) asks of a website: which apply, and where they should sit.
  3. How the Consumer Protection Act applies to a free app that introduces operators and suppliers.
  4. A minimum age, or a parent's consent, for passengers.
  5. The responsibility wording in section 10, and whether a liability limit is appropriate at all.
  6. Whether booking cancellations need stated notice periods.
  7. Whether drivers, marshals, owners and suppliers need separate terms with their association.
